Staff Spotlight – Alice Wagener
This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Alice Wagener, one of our dedicated Client Relationship Associates.
Explain your role at the firm. What do you enjoy most?

I have worked at SWMG in client service since 2010 and love it here! I originally started my financial career in 1998 at a firm about 50 miles away and commuted, so I’m very grateful to work so close to home and family. My days consist of taking calls from clients, scheduling meetings, opening accounts, drafting funds in/sending funds out, helping advisors prepare for client meetings, working with outside companies, such as 529 college savings plans, and basically anything else our clients may call for. Whew!! I really enjoy the work that I do and specifically getting to know clients on a personal level and helping them navigate through their finances. When I can make a difference for someone, it is very gratifying and really makes my day!
What are a couple of important lessons you have learned while working at SWMG?
- First and foremost, always doing what’s best for the client! This one came straight from Sherri Stephens, and I will never forget it! It impacts the level of service we provide and how we think about each client’s needs holistically.
- Always listen closely to your clients’ concerns and treat them as if they were your family. Until you can empathize with a client’s experiences, you have no idea exactly how they feel. Just being there to listen can make a real difference for us all.
If you weren’t working in the wealth management field, what do you think you would have done instead?
I would be back in the healthcare field where I started right after college. I went to Baker College in Flint and received an associate’s degree in business/medical office administration. I worked in OB-GYN and Family Practice but loved OB-GYN the most because of the cute babies (of course)! Working in healthcare was very rewarding because I was helping people. I think the healthcare field is in my blood because my mother was a RN for many years and my daughter is heading in that direction and on her way to becoming a pediatrician. I’m extremely proud of her!
What is something that clients might be surprised to learn about you? Fun Fact.
I grew up in a bowling family, and my highest average was 170 back in…a few years ago, LOL! Also, I shot my first 600 series (634) on the very same day my brother shot his first 700 series (728) … again, a few years ago, LOL! We had great times bowling and made many great friends. In fact, that’s where I met my husband, Bob. And in her spare time, Alice enjoys spending time with her family and friends and traveling with her husband to their cabin in Oscoda, MI for some beach time and fishing!
