Optimize Retirement Savings While Working

You may know that in addition to providing wealth management services to individuals and families, we support business owners with a variety of retirement savings plans for themselves and their employees. These include cash balance, 401(k), and Simple IRA plans. In total, we provide advisory services to business owners and more than 700 employees who are part of those plans. That means, we know a little something about the importance of effectively managing your retirement savings dollars, whether you are a business owner or an employee.

Business Owners:

If you do not have a retirement plan in place individually and/or for your employees (or your plan isn’t working as well as you would like), then consider reviewing our webpage dedicated to this topic: Employer Benefit Planning. Note that there are several types of employer plans to consider, and each has different pros and cons. Understandably many don’t know what questions to ask or where to start in these conversations.  We will want to work with you to identify your goals for the business and for your employer retirement plan. With that and other information about your organization and its employees in mind, we can advise you on the best plan options for you and aid you in making sound decisions for your future and that of your team. For more information about our retirement planning services for business owners, please reach out to MaryAnn White at 810-732-7411.

Southbound Attractions to Visit

We recently posed this question to the SWMG Team, “Where do you like to stop when traveling between Michigan and Florida?”  So many couples and families make this journey on an annual basis. If you are looking for some things to do on your journey, check out team members’ responses below.

Tyler Stephens
City / State:  Savannah, GA
What do you like about it: One of the few “Old” cities left without massive remodeling, colonial architecture
What should people know if they visit there? Bring good walking shoes and make sure you stop in to eat. Try to go in the Springtime to see the flowers blooming.
Anything else of interest about this place or attraction? If it is warm enough, hit the beach.

MaryAnn White, was compelled to share her hometown as a place to see as you go South.
City / State: Asheville, NC
Name of attraction: Biltmore Estate, Grove Park Lane, and/or even just a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway
What do you like about it: I love the mountains! I also love the culture. Downtown Asheville has some great local restaurants, but there is so much more to explore than just downtown – like the surrounding towns of Black Mountain and Hendersonville.
What should people know if they visit there? If you order Tea, you are going to get Sweet Tea. If you order Iced Tea, you will also get Sweet Tea! If you ask for Unsweetened Tea, it still may taste Sweet.
But, joking aside, the thing to know when visiting is that this town has heart. It prides itself on having an artsy vibe and there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Anything else of interest about this place or attraction? I’d point you to the “Explore Asheville” website as a fantastic guide: https://www.exploreasheville.com/

Kari HarberFPQP™  Client Service Lead
City / State: Cumberland Gap, TN
Name of attraction: Cumberland Gap National Park
What do you like about it: We enjoy Pinnacle Overlook and hiking the trails in the park.
What should people know if they visit there? The absolute peace and quiet of the trails and overlooks. Rich history of the early explorers and settlers and the depictions they have in the parks and visitor centers.
Anything else of interest about this place or attraction? Gap Cave

Alice WagenerClient Relationship Associate
City / State:  Memphis, TN
Name of attraction: Graceland – I have been there six times
What do you like about it: Elvis, of course. Also, the beautiful mansion and grounds, and hanging out with other Elvis fans.
What should people know if they visit there? Everyone should visit there at least once in their lifetime and experience the “50’s-70’s” culture and learn the story of the King of Rock n’ Roll.
Anything else of interest about this place or attraction? Downtown Memphis and Beal Street are fun, as well as Sun Studios where Elvis’s career began.

Chandler Fish
City / State:  Clifftop, West Virginia
Name of attraction: Babcock State Park – https://wvstateparks.com/park/babcock-state-park/
What do you like about it: It has beautiful scenery accompanied by a fully operating mill wheel that provides cornmeal. It is truly like a step back in time. Great picture opportunities, especially if traveling in the fall. Hiking, fishing, and camping are also available.
What should people know if they visit there? Getting from place to place in West Virginia can be challenging and most locations are a little bit off the beaten path. Be prepared for narrow, winding roads and mountains!
Anything else of interest about this place or attraction? The park rents out cabins for
people to stay in overnight.
